CAFÉ DEL FUTURO PROJECT
TOUTON l PERHUSA
GRADE 1 | SHB+ | ORGANIC

This coffee comes from the Asociación Café del Futuro, to which 348 farmers belong. The Asociación was founded in 2007 and stands for high-quality coffees with selected varieties and a strong focus on certified coffee. The farmers grow varieties such as Caturra, Bourbon and Mundo Novo, which flourish well in the region between the provinces of Jaén and San Ignacio. The Asociación supports the farmers in financing drying houses, which allow them to dry their coffee gently and protected from rain. 95% of the producers already use these drying houses. The coffees grow at 1600 to 2000 meter altitude.

cafe del futuro project 2023

The primary goals of the project are to enhance household resilience by expanding the reach and size of last year's home garden initiative to include a total of 206 families. This involves distributing seeds to enable farmers to achieve greater self-sufficiency and food security. Furthermore, we aim to aid soil regeneration on farms by assisting these 206 families in establishing composting modules. This will help them provide essential nutrients to their crops and maintain a balanced cash flow within their family's economic cycle.

Background

Peru's economy:

  • The volatile economy experienced collateral damage from the COVID-19 pandemic, marking its most challenging performance in three decades.

  • Inflation reached 6.82% at the start of 2022, causing economic concerns.

Solution

Seeding Sustainability

  • Distribute seeds for home vegetable gardens to 206 families, with a goal of increasing food security and diversifying agricultural practices.
