ABAKUNDAKAWA | WOMEN COFFEE | WASHED | FTO

This Fairtrade and Organic certified, washed Bourbon coffee comes from the Abakundakawa Washing Station, a cooperative founded in 1999. The name "Abakundakawa" translates to "those who love coffee." Around 20 years ago, Abakundakawa initiated the women's group Hingakawa, meaning "grow coffee," which now counts 584 women. The group's goal is to promote gender equality and fight poverty.

Farmers belonging to the Abakundakawa cooperative pick ripe cherries on the volcanic slopes of Rwanda's mountainous Gakenke District. The microclimate in this area, combined with the elevation and fertile volcanic clay soil, contributes to the coffee's balanced sweetness and floral, fruity notes.
