El Arroyon was founded in November 2003 by 4 producers. Today the group consists of a total of 30 producers, half of whom are women. The cooperative is located in San Martin, 2 hours from Yaltenango, at an altitude of 1300 - 1500 meters. Native shade trees such as oyamel, volcanic soils, and plenty of natural spring water can be found on all coffee plantations. All of these elements provide the perfect microclimate for the production of specialty coffee. The municipality of San Martin and its surroundings is made up of two ethnic groups: the Katchikeles and the Mochos. Their only income comes from coffee production. Coffee is depulped and sun-dried by every manufacturer.
