This coffee comes from Aceh Tengah District with the capital city Takengon. Aceh Tengah is located on one of the ridges of the Bukit Barisan mountain range that runs along the island of Sumatra and is also known as the Gayo Highlands region, named after the area’s dominant Gayo ethnic group. The area is well suited to productive smallholder Arabica coffee plan- tations due to its altitude between 1,350-1,600 meters with natural volcanic soil texture with intact natural forest areas nearby. This FTO-certified coffee comes from the Gayo Lauser Antara Cooperative which was formed in 2015 and consists of a total of 466 coffee farmers members. The cooperative seeks to improve the incomes and economic conditions of mem- bers who had endured economic hardship and conflict in the past.
