At Finca El Mirador, Olman mainly grows the varieties Sarchimor, Caturra and Villa Sarchí. Another, less common variety he grows is the Obata variety, which makes this Natural a real Exclusive. Obata is a further development of the Villa Sarchí variety and is, therefore, an offspring of the old Bourbon bean. Both varieties thrive particularly well in Costa Rica, as the coffee plants have adapted perfectly to the local climate. The special thing about Obata is that the variety is less susceptible to “Roja” - a fungus that primarily affects coffee plants and has caused extreme damage to coffee plantations in the past.
