ETHIOPIA
SHAKISO WS | GUJI | GRADE 1 | NATURAL
Shakiso, founded in 2010 by Kebede Dhubo, is a washing station located in West Guji. At an altitude around 1850 to 2000 masl, the WS mainly produces natural coffees. About 180 people are working on the WS which encompasses a size of 64 hectares. For the natural process, the cherries are dried in the sun on so-called „African drying beds“ for approx. 18-21 days. The cherries need to be raked permanently in order to ensure a consistent drying process. The drying beds will, if needed, be covered both to protect the cherries from the hot sun and from rainfall.
