ETHIOPIA

GELANA ABAYA | GRADE 1 | HEIRLOOM

The Gelana Abaya district lies between Lake Abaya in the west and the city of Yirgacheffe in the east. Around 750 coffee farmers deliver their cherries to the washing station, where some of the best naturals in Yirgacheffe are produced. The cherries are dried in the sun on African beds for about 18-21 days. During the day, the cherries have to be turned over permanently to ensure an even drying process. The cherries are covered during the day from 12 to 3pm to protect them from the hot sun as well as at night to protect them from rain.
